Born in Jamaica, and based in New York, storytelling is a weapon and a sage for me. Overtime it became my most authentic way of existing, understanding and connecting. Raised by a sanctified grandmother and the daughter of a woman of the world, I’ve always lived in the tension between contradictions. It’s in the betwixt—the sacred and the profane, the struggle and the grace—that I’ve learned the most about people. The biggest lesson? No matter where we fall, we all want to be seen, understood, and know that we matter.
It’s no wonder, then, that the stories I tell explore the messy and the magical, the extraordinary in the ordinary, the strength in the struggle, and the purpose in the pain. In industry terms, my work often navigates themes of identity, resilience, resistance, and belonging. A student of literature, my guides are GOD, Toni Morrison and Maya Angelou. For me, filmmaking is both a canvas and a calling—a way to shape meaning, move hearts, and honor truth.
Professionally, I began my career as a television writer and producer in Jamaica, later expanding into branded content, crisis communication, and documentaries. I'm also a trained journalist, an award-winning radio producer, and the creator of the lifestyle and film podcast "This Immigrant Life Podcast," available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Filmmaking is where it all clicks. It’s the space where every piece of my journey comes into focus and finds its purpose. All of which, I do from the sanctuary of the female led production company Phoenix which I founded to provide creative producing consultancy services, development and production support to creatives and companies.
My work has been featured in Deadline, Hollywood Reporter, Variety, ByBlacks, Jamaica Gleaner, on KTLA and TVJ. I have an MFA in Documentary Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy and a BA in Media and Communications [Honors] from the University of the West Indies.
I believe storytelling is a tool for liberation—and that creating meaningful work means lifting as you climb. My filmmaking is grounded in purpose, and so is my leadership. I’ve served as a board member of the Documentary Producers Alliance and on the steering committee of the Independent Documentary Directors, pushing for equity and accountability behind the scenes. I’m a member of the Writers Guild of America East (WGAE), a Firelight Media Documentary Lab Fellow, a Sundance Uprise Fellow, and a proud member of Brown Girls Doc Mafia. Across each role, I work to amplify underrepresented voices, protect the integrity of independent storytelling, and help build a more inclusive industry—on and off the screen.
We offer a variety of creative consulting services at Phoenix, including development, production and post production support to creatives and companies.
Whether I’m behind the camera or leading a team, I elevate the journey—creating films that inspire, move people to action, and leave a lasting impact.
At Phoenix, we believe collaboration is the key to success. Our approach is human-centered, transparent, and results-driven — built on empathy, mutual respect, and a deep commitment to honoring the dignity of everyone we work with.
